Why choose Abbey Window Cleaning?
With over 40 years of experience and an excellent reputation in and around the City of Chester, you and your property are in safe hands with the A team. We treat our customers’ property with the same respect and attention as we would our own. We love what we do and take pride in our work. In the unlikely event that you’re unhappy, we’ll always return.
We’re a small, local business meaning when you call you’re speaking to our knowledgeable team directly. We’re DBS checked (formally CRB) and our staff are all uniformed. We can let you know when we’re due to make life easy. We’re always investing in our equipment to deliver the very best results.
Company director Nic is a qualified first aider and we hold certification with IPAF, IOSH, PASMA, BSIF and City and Guilds. We’re also fully insured and have been recognised as Best Business 2022 and 2021 by independent body Three Best Rated.
What Covid 19 measures do you have in place?
Due to the nature of our work mainly being outside, we don’t have to come into close contact with our customers and payments are made online. We follow government guidance and when able to clean internal windows, we keep our distance and wear a mask and gloves.
What are your prices?
Our prices are based on your individual property.
Every building is different – how many windows you have, the access available to them and the type/style of your windows. Similarly our gutter clearance prices are based on the amount of guttering you have, the access available and how long it will take us to clear them.
Please get in touch for an accurate, free, no-obligation quote. We can usually do this over the phone/online or can quote in person if you prefer.
Are you insured for accidental damage to my property?
We hold full public and employee liability insurance for up to £5m. This covers us for all of the services we offer.
In the forty plus years we have been trading, we’re proud to say that we’ve never needed to use it but would never be without it!
A copy of our certificate is always available on request.
Do you use chemicals?
We only use purified water and sometimes mild soap to clean your windows.
For other surfaces like uPVC fascias, render and roof tiles we use only the best, professional grade chemicals. We are the first company in Chester with a City & Guilds accreditation for Softwashing and with BSIF for emergency chemical and oil spill management. We only use licensed products and would never consider using unlicensed chemicals that give the illusion of a ‘faster clean time’ on your property or premises. We can however offer 100% organic products to eliminate the use of chemical cleaning altogether. Please get in touch if you would like further information or safety data sheets.
Are you a registered business?
Yes, we’re a VAT registered limited company carrying full public and employee liability insurance.
Our company registration number is 09456447 and our VAT number is 408658278.
Do you clean in bad weather?
It’s very rare for us to clean windows in heavy rain but working against the great British weather, it is sometimes necessary for us to carry out cleaning in light rain and drizzle.
It’s a common misconception that rain can dirty your windows or leave spotting, rain does not affect the quality of our work. We’re so confident you’ll get the same, great results from our cleaning, regardless of the weather we clean in… we will return free of charge if you’re not satisfied.
If you’re not happy for any reason let us know within 24 hours and we’ll come back at no cost to you.
Our biggest nemesis is strong winds, so we may need to postpone cleaning due to safety regulations. We will always let you know if this is the case.
How do I know when you are coming, What if I’m not going to be home?
Most of our customers aren’t home when we visit.
We work on a four weekly basis and always try and work to set times but due to the unpredictable weather and nature of the work carried out, we can’t always give precise appointment times.
We offer a text service to let you know the night before we’re due. If you’re not going to be home this gives you the opportunity to unlock any gates and provide access. You will always know we have visited as we leave a calling card and your windows will be sparkling too!
How can I pay you?
All of our payments are requested via GoCardless.
GoCardless is a safe, secure and simple way of paying your bill and is used by over 70,000 businesses.
Unlike a “traditional direct debit” where a payment is taken on a particular day every month, we only ‘request’ your agreed payment after we have cleaned for you without a rolling contract in place.
You can fill in our ‘sixty second form’ on our payments page
Do you follow health and safety legislation?
Yes. We have families and we plan on going home to them at the end of each working day!
We’re always adapting to the safest and best ways of doing things and regularly attend courses to ensure we’re up to date with HSE, COSHH and the health and safety at work act.
We can provide risk assessments and method statements on request. We’re not shy about showing off our insurance certificates and accreditations either!
Do you charge VAT?
All our quotes are inclusive of VAT unless stated otherwise. The price you are quoted is the price you pay!
Abbey Window Cleaning Limited is a VAT registered business. Our VAT number is 408658278
Do I have to sign a contract?
No!
We’re very approachable and have a 24 hour guarantee to always return in the unlikely event you’re not completely happy. You’re paying for a service and we want it to be first class, every time we visit. We have customers that signed up with us in 1981 that we still visit every month!
Should you ever wish to cancel we ask that you let us know with plenty of notice.

We are able to travel a little further afield for roof cleaning and render treatment.
Please contact us for a free quote and to check we cover your area.
How often do you visit?
We clean our customers’ windows every four weeks. This is the perfect cycle to keep your windows looking great all year round.
We recommend clearing your gutters and cleaning your solar panels at least once a year.
Conservatory roofs, uPVC fascias and soffits are usually requested to be cleaned every 18-24 months but this is personal preference.
Do first cleans cost more?
In most cases, yes. First cleans normally take us a lot longer to carry out to get your windows to our usual, high standard. First cleans are seen as ‘deep cleans’ and future visits are considered ‘maintenance cleans’ to keep up that standard.
Are conservatories included in a window clean?
All conservatory windows are included in your window cleaning price.
Conservatory roofs are considered a separate job due to the extra time required to clean them. Most customers opt to have this service carried out every 18-24 months.
Can you reach skylight windows and the windows above my conservatory?
We certainly can!
Our telescopic poles reach up to 65 feet from the ground to clean even the most awkward of windows, leaving you with lots of natural light and no risk of damaged roof tiles.
Do you clean in winter?
We don’t hibernate!
Our staff require regular income and we like to maintain the standard of your windows all year round.
Winter is also our busiest time of the year clearing out gutters due to fallen leaves and the natural build-up of debris.
Do you clean my doors?
Yes, all doors are cleaned as standard with our water-fed poles!
Garage doors can also be cleaned on request.
Can you clean single pane windows and leaded glass?
We certainly can.
We have different equipment for all types of glass and years of experience cleaning everything from listed buildings, Georgian windows and even stained-glass windows for churches!
Do we need to provide water for you to clean my windows?
No!
We house our purified water and everything else we need in our van-mounted systems. You are paying us for a service, you don’t need to do anything!
Do you only clean with a pole?
No. We offer all methods of window cleaning but due to health and safety, some windows can only be cleaned by water-fed pole. We’ll make a professional opinion when we visit your property for the first time.
We have decades of experience in all methods of cleaning and over 250 five star reviews, so we’re confident you’ll be satisfied with our work regardless of the method used.
Do you clean the sills and frames?
With water-fed pole cleaning we clean sills and frames as standard.
With traditional squeegee cleaning we always clean the sills but may need to charge a little more for framework.
Are the brushes you use safe on my windows?
The brushes attached to our water-fed poles are state-of-the-art and have been designed specifically for window cleaning.
The bristles are abrasive enough to do a perfect job cleaning your windows but soft enough to prevent causing any damage.
How can you see what you’re cleaning from the ground?
We have been cleaning windows for over five decades so have lots of experience knowing what to look for whilst cleaning.
Paying close attention to each window before we clean, watching the way our pure water flows down the pane and the way the light reflects on the glass all being important factors.
We only use the best equipment and know what tools are required for different types of windows.
Do you leave windows wet?
When cleaning with water-fed poles your windows are left wet to dry naturally. Because we use 100% purified water your windows dry streak-free and spotless.
What exactly is purified water?
Pure water is tap water that has been passed through our commercial grade, reverse osmosis system. We pressurise standard tap water through a chlorine pre-filter, two reverse osmosis membranes and then a resin filter to remove all the natural impurities, minerals and chlorine leaving us with 100% ‘pure’ water.
In simple terms – we remove all the bad stuff and are left with pure water!
Why should I have my roof cleaned?
Leading UK tile manufacturers Marley, recommend cleaning your roof stating that “Moss and lichen should be removed to avoid possible water ingress into the roof space’.
We obviously agree. When moss grows in the gaps in your mortar it commonly causes cracks, damage and loose tiles.
Rain in the UK is also much less acidic than it was fifty years ago (due to less toxic chemicals in the atmosphere). Moss, algae and lichen can thrive on your roof if untreated.
Do you use a jet wash?
No!
We make a big deal about the fact that “We don’t jet wash”
We prefer to use other cleaning methods on your roof and render and will never use pressure washers.
One of the UKs leading tile manufacturers, Marley also state – “The use of high powered jet washers is not recommended as it can damage the surface of the slate or tile, thus reducing its expected life considerably.”
